I forgot to add this to the winter piccies, although it was taken before we had any snow. It's a slope in a nearby park which - come the first snow - is packed with children and whole families enjoying the thrill of a bobsleigh ride. The ponds you see in the background rarely freeze over, or they may do that in the course of the winter but rarely when the first snow falls.

So, that brings an extra peak of excitement: will the child be able to stop the bobsleigh on time or not? Ok, there are a few favourable details which may help (we don't get that much snow at one go, and there are plenty of dead leaves which slow you down very effectively). Nevertheless, it's rather interesting to see a child sit on an ancient wooden bobsleigh, screaming "NOOO! I don't want to!!!" and the parents going "Come on, don't be such a wuss. It'll be fun. Off you go!" before pushing their offspring down the slope.









Höh, tämä piti vielä lisätä talvikuviin, vaikkei tässä lunta vielä olekaan. Läheisessä puistossa on aikamoiset korkeuserot, ja kun ensilumi sataa, sinne kerääntyy järkyttävä määrä kakaroita ja kokonaisia perheitä laskemaan mäkeä. Oman lisäjännityksensä tuo kuvassakin näkyvät lammet, jotka ei yleensä jäädy; eivät ainakaan siinä vaiheessa ole jäässä, kun tänne saadaan talven eka lumisade.

Jos siis talven riemuista ei saa tarpeeksi kicksejä, lisäjännitystä saa kokeilemalla, pysähtyykö kelkka ajoissa ennen avovettä vai ei. Myönnetään, onhan siinä pari vauhtia hidastavaa tekijää: harvoin täällä sataa lunta kovinkaan paljon kerralla ja sikstoiseks jo muutama laskukerta kuluttaa pois lumen, jonka alta paljastuvat puiden lehdet hidastaa vauhtia aikas tehokkaasti. Mutta on se silti mielenkiintoista seurata vanhempien ajatuksenjuoksua. Muksu istuu kelkassa ja kirkuu pelosta, vanhemmat vaan kannustaa: "Höpöhöpö, tässä mitään pelkäämistä ole. Älä nyt ole tuommoinen mamelo, tämähän on vaan hauskaa. Uupskeikkaa, nyt lähdet vaan laskemaan..."
