On niin kiire ettei mitään ehdi... -- Was I coming or going... life is getting rather hectic again

Puhhuh. Touhua on taas riittänyt. Kyllä on koirat hyvin suojattu, sanon minä vaan.

Neuloin sitten vaan h-i-t-a-a-s-t-i ja h-u-o-l-e-l-l-i-s-e-s-t-i varren joustinta ja aloitin kantapään heti kotiin päästyäni vaikka joustinkerroksia olikin omituinen määrä.

Huomenna on luvassa neuletapaaminen (mistä luultavasti kertyy kokonainen uusi tarina), torstaina tul(l)ee korjausmies ihmettelemään terassin isoa lasiovea, josta on murtunut metallinen ohjain eli ovi ei sulkeudu kunnolla.

Sitäkin seuraava viikonloppu on jo buukattu.

Gee, let me catch my breath. It’s been a busy week again. On Saturday I visited an animal shelter with a friend. There was one extremely friendly cat who would twist and turn and jump onto my shoulders, trying to suffocate me. All I said was that I didn’t want a co-dependent cat like her, and she bit and scratched me immediately. Pity that I didn’t take any photos there – but on the other hand, the camera would have been covered in blood as well. Oh well, maybe next time. Now we only visited cats, the dogs will have to wait. And on the subject of rescued dogs, I’ve written earlier that my bank contacted me recently, asking me to send a copy of my identity card or some other document that could certify my address. Should I choose not to do this, they had the right to freeze my account (probably they were weeding out the accounts that harbour terrorists’ funds… although the amount of money on my account wouldn’t buy them much else than a couple of totally harmless Christmas crackers.) As a matter of fact, my id-card has expired a good while ago, and even though I had applied for a new one, it wouldn’t carry my address anyway. But the funny thing is that even these letters from my bank went largely unnoticed, until there was a new, more serious threat: I visit a home for rescued cats and dogs every now and then and take some doggies out for walkies. Last time I had planned to do this, they wouldn’t let me take any dogs out if I didn’t leave a valid Belgian id-card in the office as a guarantee of my reliability. A passport wouldn’t do. Those are some well-protected dogs, I’ll say. But the good thing is that this was the trigger which made me apply for a new id-card. And I still don’t respect the authorities: I just had to attach a 10-year-old photo to the application…and while the card is valid til 2009, I’ll certainly look different when this new card expires. The main thing is, however, that now I can go and bring even a bit of happiness to the mongrels’ lives by taking them out for a walk.

The weekend also contained good food, excellent company and even uplifting art experiences. There was an exhibition of a Finnish “crochet hook artist” Anu Tuominen in a gallery in Brussels – that I knew of, but this other artist, Patricia Waller, was a pleasant surprise. (I may add some photos later this week but it’s very late and I need some rest.)

On Monday there was another small strike on the subway and bus lines. Luckily I can take a long-distance bus to work, but it took ages to get there because of all the people who had chosen to take their own car instead. In anticipation, I had grabbed a set of knitting needles and a ball of yarn in the morning, but because of the delay, I almost joined a long-sock-knitalong, although involuntarily. I had long passed the normal leg length but couldn’t start working on the heel because a) this was the sock yarn I had chosen for another heel structure and b) the instructions for those were on my computer and not printed out. So, I choose to work s-l-o-w-l-y and c-a-r-e-f-u-l-l-y on the rib and started the heel as soon as I got home, although the amount of rib rows was rather strange. However, I claim that no-one will count them once the sock is finished, and even less so will they ask me the reason for that.

Tomorrow we’ll have a local knitting meeting which will be a totally different story, I presume. On Thursday there will (/should) be a visit of a handyman who comes to fix the large sliding door leading to my terrace. I know that there’s a piece of broken metal somewhere, so the “sliding” is minimal, accompanied with a screeching sound and it’s definitely not as smooth as the door manufacturer has intended. I’ve been calling the landlord about this problem since February 2003, and I still believe that it’ll be repaired one day. I’ve learned to live with the problem, but the guests complain about draught and the nice people who are watering my plants during the summer holiday have difficulties opening and closing the door. And believe you me, it’s generally nice to have a watertight door here in the rainyBelgium…

On Friday we’ll be off (again), and there’s some activity booked for the next weekend as well. No rest for the wicked, eh? I think it was year 2003 when I spent four weekends at home during the whole year, and I was sick during two of those four. And you call this free time?

Art for the fit - part of the exhibition was upstairs and you had to enter and exit using these stairs. Good luck, pal!

Soup and salt.

I don't remember the name of this piece of art, but somehow the word "please" springs to mind.

I'm sure that the knitters recognise these.

Art. This is definitely art.

Too bad that the details can't be seen. There's an extremely thin thread running through each sieve, like juice from berries, each of different colour.

Love the colours, love the colours.

Soup. Made of those tiny thin threads.

I wish I had taken a more detailed photo of the "skin" of this deer. It seemed so wonderfully soft.

Well, those weren't crocheted, they were just standing on the muddy field next to the museum. Wonder how all those people feel living next to these giant tits.

I'm speechless.

It was a mistake to go there before lunch.

Can I tempt you with starters?

And the lettuce?

Even the avocado seemed so real.

No Anne, suomalaiset neulojathan ovat t-e-r-r-o-r-i-s-t-e-j-a, ainakin jonkun mielestä. ;)

Hi Anne and a belated Happy New Knitting Year! Just wanted to say your 'blogging' is great and I've checked it a few times now and find it very inspirational, but I can't keep up!

Hi Nicki, and Happy New(ish) Year to you too! I was just thinking of you the other day and wondered how life is treating you. At the moment "they" are still in the cupboard, but as soon as there's any progress, I'll certainly let you (and the whole knitting world) know. Please keep dropping by!

I WILL answer you, but before that, please take a wild guess ;-) (and we do not accept English as an answer)
